He goes over a broad range of topics regarding what it takes to break into the Graphic Design field. The topic I found most interesting was his take on portfolio review: simplicity. I was always under the assumption that Creative Directors were looking for fancy, over-the-top portfolios when looking for talent. It's good to know that keeping things simple and neat is the way to go.
I also enjoyed his quotes "Steal from others" and "Write things down". These are actually things I have used in the past and will continue to do so.
Margo Chase
She explains more of the business side of Graphic Design and gives a realistic explanation of what the process of working with clients is like. I enjoyed how she explained that having a specific style is a double edged sword, in that you can easily get pigeonholed to that specific style- in her case, Gothic. Something I will keep in mind as I pursue my career in design.
The one thing that I noticed that both presenters touched on was how important it is to know your Graphic Design history and how they actually employ it in their own work and daily work activities.
I found these videos very inspirational because as a beginning Graphic Design student, I find it reassuring that I'll be able to make a living in a field that I really enjoy. To be able to work in this field would be a dream come true.
